The US Women's Gymnastics Team are competing in Tokyo, Japan, October 7-16, 2011. The US team is one of the strongest in the world. With less than a year before the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the United States has an extraordinary mix of veterans and newcomers. Currently working for one of five spots on the 2012 Olympic Team there are currently four 2008 Olympic veterans wanting another shot at the Olympics. Providing plenty of competition are a dozen young athletes, many who have recently moved up from the junior level, all with world-class gymnastics skills who also want to make that team. This year's World Championships will test a number of these athletes to see if they can manage the pressure of a major international competition and prove that they are worth of being selected to the Olympic team. Additionally, countries wanting to send a team to next summer's games must qualify through the World Championships, and only eight teams will make the cut. In 2008 at the Olympics in Beijing, the US Women's Team took the silver medal, just being beaten out by the Chinese. In 2012, the Americans will not be satisfied with anything less than a gold medal in the team finals.
