A light-rail train Wednesday afternoon, near the intersection of East Java Drive and Geneva Drive in Sunnyvale, struck and killed a bicyclist according to the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
There are no railroad crossing signs at the intersection and trains use sound cues and flashing signs to signal their approach, said Sunnyvale city spokesman John Pilger.
Pilger added that details surrounding the fatal collision and how the male victim ended up beneath the train were not immediately clear.
Service on the Mountain View train line was temporarily halted north of the Sunnyvale/Fair Oaks Avenue station following the accident.
VTA spokeswoman Jayme Kunz said full service was restored at 2:30 p.m. after the medical examiner's office removed the victim from the track.
