(WHAS11) - Dozens of dogs are now in the care of animal shelters after police say they were involved in dog fighting rings.
The dogs were seized and some found dead at two different homes in Orange County.
In Paoli, police found some 90 dogs living on six foot chains, with only barrels for shelter and their drinking water was infested with mosquitoes.
At another location in French Lick they seized nine dogs and dog fighting paraphernalia.
Brian Denny was arrested for using the animals for dog fighting.
Authorities have been investigating for over a year.
"Unfortunately, dog fighting is alive and well. We see animals that have been abused like this on a regular basis," says Tim Rickey, director of the Animal Cruelty Task Force Humane Society of Missouri.
The dogs have been taken to various shelters in the region for medical treatment.
They will be evaluated to see if adoption is an option.
