HOUSTON-- Police sources named a person of interest Wednesday in connection with the deaths of a pregnant woman and her boyfriend.
Homicide detectives say Leiah Jackson was attacked at her home in Missouri City on Sunday. Jackson, who was eight-and-a-half months pregnant, was stabbed more than 20 times, investigators said.
Police said her boyfriend, Yancey Daniels, whose body was found in the bushes of an apartment complex Sunday afternoon, was killed just hours before his girlfriend.
“He was shot multiple times all over his chest, two times in his jaw. He was stabbed in his rib,” said Daniels' sister, Tarhonda.
Sources told 11 News that Cornelius Harper is a person of interest in this case. He is in jail on a charge of marijuana possession and for allegedly stealing a car from outside his parole office. He is being held without bond.
Family members said Harper and Yancey Daniels were cousins, and that they often spent time together.
“They always joked, they always played. My brother liked him. My brother didn’t want to do anything but help him,” said Tarhonda Daniels.
She said Harper moved to Houston in July of 2008.
On the day of the murders, police picked up Harper from his uncle’s home, where he had had been watching the Texans football game, she said.
She has not heard from him since.
Harper has not been charged with murder.
Police said they could release more information related to this case in the next few days.
