FORT HOOD, TX
Suicides are a serious problem at the U.S. Army's Fort Hood, the huge Texas military base where an officer went on a deadly shooting spree, records show.
The Washington Post reported Friday 10 of the 117 active-duty Army soldiers reported to have committed suicide this year were stationed at Fort Hood and 75 have taken their lives there since 2003. Fort Hood is the Army's largest base, with tens of thousands of soldiers, but the number of suicides also is the highest among U.S. military posts, the newspaper said.
The alleged shooter in Thursday's rampage that left 13 dead and 30 wounded was Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, a psychiatrist known to be working with soldiers returning from overseas combat with emotional problems. Hasan, a Muslim of Jordanian descent, allegedly had been upset about his impending war-zone deployment.
The Post said multiple deployments through years of war in Afghanistan and Iraq have produced record rates of mental health problems in the all-volunteer Army. About 30 percent of those returning from combat suffer mental health symptoms, including depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress. Abuse of alcohol and drugs is on the rise.
The newspaper points out that those who treat soldiers with post-battlefield emotional issues have been known to experience symptoms vicariously.
Hasan, who served a psychiatry internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center from June 2003 to this past July, treated soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder.

its always amazing to me when people join the military, take advantage of the job security, get trained to be a soldier, uses the bill benefits, hospital benefits, schooling and collegiate benefits, etc....but then dont want to be a soldier when it comes time. just proves they are fucking cowards to begin with, just like the nerds who join police forces because they got punk'd as kids.
its like me taking a job in a restaurant, trained to be a cook, go to the classes, get food handler certificat More..

Exactly...did the Post ask how many were treated by this deranged terrorist? And please, you do not get post-traumatic stress vicariously through others, if that's the case how many gamers would now have suffered the debilitating effects because of the carnage they caused last night playing COD4...lol.

And the chorus of excusing, rationalizing and contextualizing of this evil loser. When you keep yelling allah ackbar while shooting, in his religious mind, it is an offering to allah and is thus a religious crime.
He is a Psychiatrist and has extensive training in dealing with his own as well as other's issues.

People commit suicide in every walk of life.
But it takes a Muslim to kill 12 people and wound 31 in his attempt to kill himself.

People who go blasting indiscriminately with firearms normally expect to be shot dead.
That seems to fall into the category of suicide to me.
Do you have another spin on it?
Was he expecting to drive home at the end of the day?

He's alive. His intention was to kill as many people as possible, there's absolutely nothing to suggest he wanted to kill his self i.e commit suicide. If he got shot back and killed, thats not suicde. Look up the legal defintion of suicide. It does not matter how realistic his chance of suriving.
