Too stupid for science? Try religion!
As long as religion poisons this Earth, humans are going to have a difficult time surviving.

@cruizin I think you missed his point albeit possibly because he was so insulting which is understandable. Religion's relationship with science is a classic double-edged sword. Religion has done great harm to scientific progress on one hand however many of the greatest scientific minds to ever live were religious and largely motivated by their faith and we're ALL better off for it. Religion to me is neither a poison nor a cure. It's dangerous when mishandled and uplifting and harmless to so many More..

@inevitab1e no faith, try science.
Read the Word of God once in a while. He has many things to say.

@Opium How so? This was a mixture of interesting facts and speculation about other lifeforms. How does that suddenly determine the origins of life and matter? Oh well, I suppose everyone sees life through their own lenses.

Greatness! Thanks for posting.
I must say I really respect DeGrasse,not for his intelligence only,but for his way of explaining his thoughts.

You are correct he is quite the speaker and I enjoy listening to him. Though I am smart enough to realize that every concrete statement a scientist makes eventually crumbles. These people are fun to listen too but don't bet the farm on them.

Every time some very intelligent person delves into the mysteries of the universe like this, all the unintelligent people here have to come up with their simplistic statements about "God". That makes the simple-minded feel that they already understand, what they obviously do not understand.

Scientists should be the role models for everyone. Not everyone has to be a scientist. But scientifically literate. It prevents you from being manipulated, it keeps your curious about the universe and its wonders and it enables you, to use your own head. It also keeps young, prevents you from getting a boring old man/woman waiting to die.
Sadly, since scientists are not scientists for fun, but because they love what they do, we don't have many of these fine folks in politics and business. But t More..

Thank you for providing further proof for Chesterton's observation; When a man ceases to believe in God he doesn't believe in nothing, he believes in anything.

Haha.. Imagine having the gall to say that proud atheists and free-thinkers would believe in anything, when you are the dumb fuck who believes a man, sent from heaven, roamed the dusty, illiterate middle east about 2000 yrs ago and performed 'miracles' and was the son of a man who resides in the sky and knows what you think.
Fuck off to Lourdes.. your shepherds calling you. I choose NOT to live in the divine North Korea.

Funny how any intellectual debate brings out the religious whack jobs here at Live Leak. The paradox is that if Jesus was really the son of god and was around today these same right wing religious nutjobs that enjoy all this blood lust at Live leak (hence the reason they are at this site) would call Jesus a fucking hippy left wing liberal socialist hypocrite and denounce him as the son of god. Then they would do just as the romans did and go watch him nailed to the cross or dragged through the s More..

Ooooh. "Watch out Guys, we're dealing with a badass over here!"
Actually, Mr. Tyson is very intelligent and has charisma. We need more people like him to help explain science to the dumbasses in this country, in particular, the folks in Tennessee who passed some anti-science school measures lately.
