The horse on which they ride, called Twin's Jamaica, is in fact blind. Yesterday, the pair made their appearance at the Rabobank Talent 2012, breeding ground for professionals in horse sports. The 21 year old horse's Twin Jamaica has a bluish white right eye and the left is nothing more than a cavity. "Many people are scared, when my 'Jammie' for the first time," says Danique Schnellenberg.

Jamaica suffers from glaucoma, making the right eye and the left eye was already blind quickly went downhill. An amputation was unavoidable. Danique was upset and found it to be final. But owner Jennifer Scharroo severed the knot anyway.

"If Jamaica hears the music, then it is immediately ready. I give exactly how they should go, and she carries out. Of course I note that she is blind. Not too close to the low white picket fences in the beginning.
Benefits
That Jamaica sees nothing, has advantages. Thus, the animal remains well focused and not afraid of a sudden looming umbrella or a parked tractor. "Grazing in the meadow can not, but if there is walked with her, she knows from the rustling leaves flawlessly the juiciest deal," laughs owner and trainer Scharroo.

How long her horse still I keep up the sport because she thinks not. With Twin's Jamaica's life from day to day. Nobody expected that within a few weeks after the amputation already heavy games would run. Let alone, would join the Rabo Talent of the equestrian sports association KNHS.

  • I have to say, this is amazing. I know nothing about horses accept they eat, poo and kick. When they are not doing that they act like spoiled brats.

So it's amazing to see a horse that's blind that is working as well as this one.
