Members of Israeli left group of Committee to Lift the Siege on Gaza deface Tel Aviv landmarks in protest of deadly Navy raid

Three fountains in the city of Tel Aviv were vandalized Thursday night in protest of the deadly Navy raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla.

Members of the Committee to Lift the Siege on Gaza said they painted the fountains' water red "in order to remind everyone that the siege results in blood, both on the land and in the sea."



The perpetrators spray-painted slogans around the fountains – on Dizengoff, Yigal Alon and Masaryk streets – including "Freedom for Gaza" and "Occupation=terror".

The Committee to Lift the Siege on Gaza said in a statement, "More than 2,600 Palestinians have been murdered by Israel in the Gaza Strip alone in the past four years of siege, in attack from the air, sea and land. The only solution for stopping the bloodshed is by lifting the siege and ending the occupation through peace negotiations, by unilateral actions."




This was not the first time such a "colorful" protest is displayed in Tel Aviv. In June 2007, soldiers serving in the Town Major's Office in the city were surprised to see the building painted red and the slogan "Stop the lies, stop the occupation" sprayed on the wall. The protest was said to be carried out by left-wing activists and anarchists.
