Madeleine Albright, Iraq’s Grim Reaper, of course, confirmed on Sixty Minutes (May 12, 1996) that the deaths of half a million children as a result of the absolute, all-embracing deprivations of the UN embargo were: “A hard choice, but the price, we think the price is worth it.”
One cynical blogger, was so incensed that the header read: “Genocidal war criminal wins Presidential Medal whilst invoking Holocaust memories.”

I'm curious to what was said during the full interview. However, I don't agree with that particular part of her response. As a parent myself, and even before I became one, there is no 'worth it' when it comes to dead children, regardless of what country they are from.

It is not worth it, but doing nothing would have been even worse on the long run. With Saddam in power Kurds in particular would have been realy badly off. Shias would have been also on Saddam's shit list as soon as sanctions are lifted. And any other dissident would be taught to think right way (if they survive).
Now at least there is a chance of things getting better.
