  • They don't pay the sailors that man these things nearly enough. Could you imagine going out to sea and not seeing the light of day for six months straight? Talk about going stir crazy. I'd be losing it in just a couple of days.

    Respect to all sub mariners!!!

  • The band is Massive Attack. Pretty appropriate.

  • My Son is a nuclear technician on one.
He has re-enlisted once already and has shore duty now but if he re ups he will get a huge bonus but will have to go back out on the boat.
He already missed part of his young Son's early years and just had a daughter so I doubt he will do it.

    • @MikeNovember Not a big surprise as they are out long periods with no real communication.
My Son was smart enough to get a job in the military 98% cannot qualify for much less actually do.
This gives him a certain amount of bargaining power for his position and deployment.
He knows if he re ups again his family will be threatened and he will miss those young, amazing years of his children growing up.
He is smart enough to take advantage of benefits and get out while the getting is good.
      He had a More..

    • @mikedelta12 Thanks
Added to favorites so I can watch it later.
I am more interested in American subs of course but I am interested in them all.
      I loved Das Boot.
When I visited him recently I got a nice tour of Pearl Harbor and the sub they have docked there as well as the sub museum.
I respect him and any sub mariner greatly.
      Thanks for the heads up.
I remember passing the vid because I didn't have time at the moment but I will watch it.

Das Boot, One of my favorite movies.

I'm a huge fan of the US fleet boats myself! Like the Gato's, etc. Wonderful technology for the time and very successful in their task.

You have to appreaciate the German VIIC's, and IX though!

  • I guess anytime a country gets a little hot headed, the USA must remind them that they can reach out at touch them with ICBM's anytime.... true keepers of the peace...
