1 Dead, 7 Injured in Miami Beach Shootings

One person was killed and seven others -- including three police officers -- were injured in a series of early morning Memorial Day shootings in South Beach, police said.

The first shooting happened shortly before 4 a.m. after police opened fire on a car in the area of Collins Avenue and 15th Street.

Police said the car had been involved in an earlier crash with a police car, and that the driver had hit several cars and had tried to hit officers.

The driver of the car was killed, police said. Authorities said they're trying to determine whether the man had fired any gunshots.

Four innocent bystanders were injured in the shooting and were taken to Ryder Trauma Center, Miami Beach Police said. Their injuries and conditions are unknown.

Two Miami Beach officers and an officer from Hialeah were taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center. Police said none of the officers were seriously injured..

      I was thinking the same thing. There's cause for concern when you read the last few paragraphs of KaaaBOOM's post above. Here's part of it

      Benoit recorded that same shooting with his cell phone camera. But he says a police officer ran over and grabbed his camera phone and smashed it.

      "He didn't say nothing. He just snatched me by my head and threw me on the ground and stepped on my back, threw it on the floor, stepped on it and was cussing me out the whole time," said Ben More..

  • This is hip hop weekend in Miami, they do this every Memorial Day for the last 10+ years. Locals know that you will be hassled, disrespected at the least. And mugged, stabbed or shot at the worst. Why Miami endorsed these thugs every year for this weekend is beyond me. Shop owners routinely close up for the weekend as walking out on bills at eaterys is very normal by these thugs on this weekend, retailers report spikes of shoplifting and vandalism.
