First impressions mean a lot when you start a new job. After years of battling the Los Angeles Lakers, 2-time NBA MVP, STEVE NASH, 38, decided "if you can't beat 'em... Join 'em!" This is edited footage of Steve getting introduced to staff and management at The Lakers' HQ/practice facility in El Segundo. In a sports world where out of control egos and outrageous behavior are often the norm, Nash is a soft-spoken, old-school gentleman as he meets and greets the behind the scenes crew that makes the The Los Angeles Laker organization one of the most storied and successful in sports history.
The Canadian-born and raised Nash was a soccer player until he took up basketball at age 13. Unable to wear his lucky #13 in Lakerland (because The Lakers have retired the #13 jersey made famous by the late Wilt Chamberlain), Nash will wear #10 as a tribute to soccer heroes Pele and Diego Maradonna. Steve credits his soccer skills, particularly the incredible footwork that soccer helped him develop, with making him the great basketball player he became (and still is, even at age 38).
Nash signed a 3-year deal worth $27 million with his former rivals in an attempt to realize his dream of playing on an NBA championship team.
My favorite moment comes at 7:20 when longtime Laker assistant coach, Bill Bertka, gushes at how The Lakers finally found a way to "defend Steve Nash and his pick and roll:" sign him.
