Fascinating.
Of course, leave it to Japan to come up with something like that.

This is retarded, Japanese people are fucking weird. I'm sure they sell these at at least 1000% profit though.

This is stupid. I'm sick of this "Japan is ahead of the entire world in tech." They're not, they just reapply what we all already know to make stupid shit like this with no practical application.

As I see it, they have made two major innovations here. They have taken 3D imaging and combined it with 3D printing in a meaningful way that allows doctors and medical students to create physical models of the insides of the human body. That's valuable.
Second, they created a market application for this beyond just the medical industry. Yes, these models for parents are pricy now, but the technology is new. In a few years, this may cost $250 instead of $1250, and a lot of parents More..

That sounded like a really desperate attempt at making something useless sound useful.
3D printing has been around for a very long while now, as has 3D imaging. Smashing the APIs together to create 3d models of the babies is just something no one has ever needed to do.
I can't believe you feel like you can compare this to airplanes and telephones.
I mean, no offence, but wouldn't this just be translating data recieved from the 3D imaging device in to data which can be interpreted More..

I'm not sure what you think innovation is. By your standard, the airplane really wasn't a "new" invention. The gas engine had already been invented. Various gliders and smaller model planes had already been built. The Wrights put two things together and created something new. Many people, including some military minds, responded that this was little more than a hobby item.
The telephone, too, was largely assembled from innovations that others had already made. Bell wa More..

@buzzardist ... Seriously. We're talking about two incredibly large and complex modules with a, relativley speaking, INCREDIBLY small interfacing bridge that they developed, put together. You can't compare that to a series of several small inventions assembled to create a phoneairplane. "Well technically, the motherboard consists of tons of ICs, transistors and resistors, so you can't really credit Asus for designing the motherboard." - Is basically how you're interpreting my argument. More..

The interface may not be nearly as simple as you think it is. Those 3D scans of the body return terribly complex, layered information. That information needs to be sorted out so that the 3D printer knows what to print and converted into a form that the 3D printer can recognize. That can be harder than it sounds, and just rendering visual images on a screen is not the same as printing them in 3D.
Game engines never operate outside of a flat screen. For all the appearance of 3D mod More..
