Crumbling US infrastructure a missed opportunity for jobs, renewal
Well this is what the US has been reduced to a crumbling infrastructure begging to be renewed and updated. New jobs by the thousands for years to come, due to obsolete 80 year old infrastructure. Fix our economy by fixing our infrastructure.
USA has a rating of D on a scale of A-F, I think that is worse than just about all of Europe.

Here is your infrastructure problem in a nutshell...remember those "shovel ready" jobs that weren't so shovel ready...it's because they still had to go through permitting to get the approvals needed to start the work. The government got in it's own way...just like it get's in the way of businesses across this country. Ironic.

I agree some infrastructure is gong unrecognized but for starters it's the states responsibility NOT the FEDS. Typical MSNBC/Liberal mindset is bring MORE of the government into the picture...it solves everything right?
I just moved from Hawaii, there is a water main break somewhere on Oahu about everyday. This is the state of Hawaii's problem and has been a sore spot with the locals forever. Hawaiians put their money into tourism and NOT the local infrastructure.

Your infrastructure is crumbling, because your rich have stopped investing into your nation.
Back in the good ol' days, rich people would build railroads and roads, so workers could travel easier, and the nation saw benefit from it.
Today, your rich sell you iPads and iPhones, trinkets designed to break down and require replacing in a year. The rich benefit from this, since a worker with a phone and laptop becomes more productive... and indeed, the productivity of the American worker has incre More..

@hellgremlin I agree middle-class wages have stagnated and that needs to be addressed. I think baby boomer retirements will help raise wages as labor supply bleeds off.
But on your other point, wealthy Americans still pay for roads and bridges through state and local taxes on property and sales, plus municipal bonds sold to investors. If they need more funds, they should raise S&L taxes or sell more bonds.

I'm sure it gets hard to repair your own infrastructure when billions are going on wars. Donations of, again, billions are going to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and a 100 million odd citizens on the poverty line.
You can only spend the citizens taxes once...

The problem is that there is no money left in the u.s. to pay for all the repairs.
Bankruptcy sucks that way, cant afford anything..

@nutsflipped Yup. After laughing at the Republican convention, I was dismayed at the Democratic one.
That they should FORCE support for Israel in the party platform... this is just appalling. When I think of all the things that need to be addressed in this country -- specifically like infrastructure -- and we need to put ISRAEL in our political platform...
I don't know what to say to that. We have no voice in our government.

The independent ticket had an actual plan for infrastructure & Jobs,.
but Big Media didn't want that approach to fixing America, they want their puppet Romney elected,.
The Independent ticket wanted to end the wars and re-invest that money into Jobs, and re building America,.
but not now !,.we are stuck with Congressional deadlock and rising unemployment,.we will have to wait another four years with these two clowns running for office,.
better save your money to give to Obama for your afforda More..

Where did all the 5 trillion of stimulus spending go? I am sure the Obama big unions and political cronies got a big chunk of it and they did nothing.

Do you liberal nitwits want state and local governments to do anything at all?
Why is the federal government supposed to do every damn thing?
Issue the bonds and do the work. Leave the feds out of it.

The government doesn't create jobs, people. It never has. Their charter is to collect taxes and provide for a national defense. They are not job creators, wealth creators, idea creators, technology creators, or problem solvers.
They cannot and should run a fucking thing and should be a prosperity enabler only. Just ask the US Postal Service, your local DMV, and the "employees" of Amtrak.

@yorba Too bad for the U.S., cause about every other nation on earth HAS a government that finds solutions for problems like that, because the citizens of those nations want the problems solved, and task government with it.
Apparently having a government that isn't responsible for anything except collecting taxes and spending it on the military tends to have drawbacks. Like the problems shown. While the U.S. military is able to kill people via remote-contolled drones on the other side of the pl More..

@Uac_mitun_ahau Your stupidity is astounding. We are the largest economy in the free world. Our technologies and medical breakthroughs set the world standard, and none of it came from government. It's free markets, idiot. It's capitalism, idiot. We are the standard bearer for the entire planet, and the US government has recently decided that it can do better, but has fucked up and failed at everything it's done. It's out of control, over bearing, over regulating, and smothering and killin More..

@yorba Sure, capitalism seems to work out just fine. Fore some, at least. A minority, but hey, that's just how it goes.
But how come there are problems like the ones shown in the vid? If the U.S. is the satndard bearer for the entire planet, do you expect the rest of the world to reduce water quality to D- and have their infrastructure in a similar state as the one in the U.S.?

@Uac_mitun_ahau Capitalism is king. It's who we are and who we have always been. If you don't like it, don't live here and don't visit here. Enjoy another economic means if you like, it's not your business to lecture America on how to run our system. And our water is fine. Once again.

Obama and the Democrats gave all the Stimulus money to their supporters and most created no jobs but gave themselves big paydays before bankruptcy.
The big promise was to fix our infrastructure and yet it is not being done.
4 more years of broken promises and out of control spending that does nothing send the rookie back to Chicago where the Murder rate and crime rate has soared since Rahm Emanuel took office as the Mayor.

Guy starts like a moron with his LA comment. California has 3 football teams. LA's moved to the Bay Area (Oakland) after LA never helped them build a stadium. If he's an hour south of LA then he's an hour north of San Diego which does have a football team. Go watch them dumbass.

If we put money into infrastructure, it would take money from social programs. The Democrats will not have that!
You see, money was and is there for infrastructure, well at least roads and bridges, it's called the Federal gas tax. Unfortunately it has been robbed for social programs for decades.
So what is their answer?... Borrow more money!
