Bosnian Struggle For Stability

Unemployment in Bosnia-Herzegovina is running at 40 per cent, adding to tensions still remaining from the war there, which ended in 1995.

The situation is so unstable that there are fears the fragile power-sharing arrangement between Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs is falling apart.

  • All this from the British Al Jazeera reporter? Al Jazeera cares about Bosnia insofar as it involves muslims and nothing further. No western european nation will forget soon that WW1 started in the Balkans, and thats why none are particularly eager to meddle in this backwater anymore.

  • After the Dayton agreement 1995 a bosnian state was formed, with Bosnian (muslim), Croat (katholic) and Serb (christian-orthodox) people living in it.
Around the time of the breakup of Yugoslavia, the US government claimed that such a state as Yugoslavia, with so many ethnicities and religions, cannot exist.
They formed the Bosnia-Herzegovina as it is now. A bit controvers, as Bosnia is a small Yugoslavia dont you think?
In the long term, with its problems and tensions, this state cannot exist. Fascist thinking Croats, fundamentalist muslims, and nationalistic Serbs.

The state is divided in 2, the western Bosnian-Croat part 51%, and the eastern Serb part 49%.
There has not been a referendum in that state, that has its highest Goernment positions still held by Foreigners from the west, that try to keep the state together at all cost. If it breaks up, it would clearly mean that all of Europe and US failed to bring stability or find a peacefull solution back in 1995.

95% of the people n republika Srspka dont want to live in a bosnian state. As the economic motor of Bosnia, the Eastern part costs Republika Srspka 300 miollion Euros each year.
The Croats want to join Croatia, because of numerous reasons!
So what will be left,...? Sarajevo (divided) , and some hills and villages around. Of course the west dont want that. But the question is,..how will it be resolved, in 'newar future'.

The problem is, that in the 90's the west intervened, and that the borders, have nothing to do with the people living in it.

I dont see a prosper future for the people living in Bosnia, especially the muslim minority.

This is fact, and no diss hatred post!

  • Results of Western interventions at their finest. They did it to my and the surrounding countries in the past and they are doing it to ex Yugoslavian states now.Drawing borders based upon abstract ideas of ethnical politics has never worked and never will work.It only leads to further conflicts amongst the people involved.

  • Some still support the leaders who brought war to this country.

Hell yes I do support those leaders! If we never went to war we would be in the same situation like Kosovo Serbs right now. Facing a massive exodus within a 15 - 20 year old period.

Anyone who opposes my views, try living with radical islamists in the same country. Because that's just what Izetbegovic was, and he was going to become the president.

Who knows, the way things are going in Europe right now, French, Germans and the British might find out soon enough.

  • I wonder what was really behind our one sided intervention in this . Surely the political smart cookies projected the outcomes of the way it's turned out , which makes no sense as it's just stoked the fires of the next kick-off . Sinister really .

  • From personal experience, I have to say that the Serbs are the biggest, nationalistic assholes I've ever met.

  • And the croats are the biggest fascists, Bosnian muslims the bigges fundamentalists. Where do we get if we start arguing like that?

You should fresh up your history in the balkans, but you might go back to some 500 years and more, then you might understand. Also try to get a bigger picture of events, and not just take one side into account.
