Great light show

The Atlantic City Alliance gave Moment Factory a free hand in the design and production of Duality. It’s an all-new, all-original, all-aboard immersive exercise in the kind of fun one can have when given a fascinating subject, state of the art architectural mapping and 3D animation technology, and creative carte blanche.

Duality is as colourful as Boardwalk Hall’s history. Over the course of 8 ½ minutes, twice every hour after nightfall, the expansive façade of the hall leaps to life as dynamic 3D animated projections infuse its foundations with movement. Stones pulsate, arches crumble into stardust, and the structure that once was evaporates in a spectacular amalgamation of light and sound, only to re-emerge at the behest of two competing yet complementary – and ultimately collaborative – entities representing the duality inherent in the Hall’s ongoing story. An original soundtrack and a vast array of multi-coloured geometric forms and shifting illusory imagery all assist in the telling of a five-act tale of rebirth and renewal that indulges the imagination. It’s celebratory, joyful, artful and above all entertaining – a fitting tribute to the lively legacy of Boardwalk Hall.

The installation of the show includes 12 20,000 lumen video projectors, 65 RGB Luminar standing lights, 14 surround sound speakers, and five low-frequency sub-woofers (all designed to withstand even the severest seaside elements).

      It's called pixel mapping.

Photograph/geometry/laser scan/etc of the building so you know where things need to be drawn on a computer, then animate to fit within building space on each projector, hardware is used to synchronise.... estimating up to 80-120Megapixels of imaging at likely 25fps... that's as much information as 10 good cameras taking 25 photos a second, crazy job, crazy gear needed.

  • That's what 1.5 million dollars+ of projectors does. Nice job, some cool animations there. Must be hellishly detailed in the flesh with 20 movie grade projectors...
