Snakes? We got snakes. Psycho ones.

After watching the video today of the eastern diamondback I was thinking about our Australian snakes and how they are so awesome and deadly at the same time. I also noticed there doesn't seem to be any videos of one of the great Aussie characters, Rob Bredl aka The Barefoot Bushman. My parents know him quite well and he's a top bloke, though slightly insane as the vid shows. So here's a mix of both. Eastern brown snakes - second deadliest snake in the world - are very common round here. This is a snake species even Steve Irwin didn't like to stir up too much. And having been struck at myself a few times by brownies that could've just slithered off in the opposite direction, the way they often think the best escape plan is through you, well...it really tightens that nutsack for a few seconds.

  • Seems like, if your parents know him and all, you could get some exclusive video or something, I don't know. If he's all "bushman" and that, he could, maybe, give some pointers on how to survive in the outback. You know there are people here who enjoy learning such stuff, if possible.

Well Rob is the original crocodile man and without his help they probably would be extinct by now. His father was also respected as a snake expert. Just like Malcolm Douglas (RIP) a lot of his bush knowledge comes from aboriginal methods. He has some dvd's on bush tucker and survival and he'll eat anything that won't kill him. I liked Steve Irwin but I found he tended to sensationalize things a bit much. Rob's motto has always been "keep it real". There's vids of him doing c More..

  • Nice one. I don't think I've seen that guy before.

The last brown-snake I caught here was about 6 weeks ago.. he was only about 1m long. There's also a lot of taipans and red-belly-blacks around this area (South-East Queensland hinterland).

I once found a nest of taipans in a paddock under a pile of dead trees, well over 100 of the crazy fuckers.. we got some locals together and had a whacking day with diesel and shotguns. Burn them out then blast them! I had to slash the grass in the paddoc More..

Yeah, My old boy found a nest of a couple of hundred taipans blocking a drain under the causeway at Canungra Golf Club. No one else seems to believe me that there was hundreds of kilos of nasty ass snakes in one spot, except for the boys that were there that day. The army ended up "cleaning" them up. lol
