The Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol sector just released a new map where a proposed border fence will be built.
The proposed fence is just over 69 miles long. It stretches in segments from Roma to beyond Veterans Bridge in Brownsville.
Some of the locations set up for the fence are located near ports of entry. But the majority of the fence will be constructed on private property. Some segments of the fence will be about one mile long. Others are up to 13 miles long.
The fence is expected to be about 16 feet high. It's designed to withstand extreme climate changes. Construction should begin in the spring and be completed by December 2008.
But before the border fence can actually be built, there must be an environmental impact study on the areas where the proposed fence is expected to be built.
