Retro TV Space 1999

This video is part of an ongoing project to build a retrospective TV archive made exclusively for the LL community on my Retro TV channel at

http://www.liveleak.com/c/Retro_TV_

Originally aired from 1975 to 1977 with 48 episodes. The second season was broadcast over a two year period 1976 and 77. However, in some ITV regions the series didn't conclude until 1978 and ITV Whales didn't air the last episode until 1984. The show ran in syndication in the US and quite a few other countries.

You either loved this series or you know very little about it. So I don't have to go into a lot of trivia details about it because if you clicked on this you probably know all about the show. If you don't then you need to go and see it now. It's on Netflix. I'd highly recommend the 30th anniversary edition Megaset, you can probably find it on Amazon or something. That's the set I have and I vouch for it, if you're a fan you won't be disappointed.

The first Dunkin Donuts commercial stars child actor Mason Reese. He did commercials for Post raisin Bran, Dunkin Donuts and some others. Reese was a precocious young talent and achieved some notoriety in the 70's.

Morgan Freeman in the Polaroid commercial. Not the best quality I know, I did what I could with it and I still wanted to use it. It's Morgan freekin Freeman after all.

I'm drooling looking at that Swanson dinner too, gotta go throw something barely dead on the grill, see ya!

  • Very cool, as usual. Thanks for the post Rikki!!

Could you imagine showing up in like 1975 with a digital camera from today? You would put Polaroid out of business before they really got started.

Someone asked me once if I were into beastiality. I was going to answer with an emphatic NO!. But then I thought about Maya and had to answer maybe.

  • My favorite show back in the day! And awesome commercials to boot. Voted.

Useless trivia: producer Fred Freiberger was hired to "help" the show in the second season and many people blame him for destroying it. Freiberger was also hired to "help" Star Trek in its third season and people blame him for the demise of that show as well.

Oh man Freiberger wrote on dozens of shows. More than his fair share of clunkers too that's true lol. I first became aware of his writing with the Scooby Doo series of the early 70's.

He wrote like 15 or 20 episodes man, zoinks! Did some Super Friends too. Talk about hokey. Awesomeness though.

  • Ha! Remember my Brother and I begging Dear o'l Mom to buy us a TV dinner back in the early 70's. It was basically considered something special. Whoda thought...

  • I used to love that show. Polaroid cameras were so cool. Film cameras are on the out for sure. But I thing that there is still a market for a Polaroid. They were just cool. and you know. I can't remember when the metal tray left the TV-dinner. First the tray went plastic then the name TV-dinner left completely. I kind of miss putting those things in the oven. Never had such a problem with ice in the middle of my mashed potatoes. You can still get jiffy-pop though. Wal-Mart brought it back to th More..

  • Loved Space 1999 although some of the spaceships looked like something straight out of a CornFlakes box.

    • @bandit1200
I have some VHS recordings of UFO and Captain Scarlet, no Joe 90 though. I'll add it to my "need it" list.

I also have Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's Thunderbirds which was supermarionation too. I picked out what I think is one of the coolest intros. Like Space 1999 here, each opening theme depicted scenes from the episode.
