Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has been roundly
criticized for a letter she and several other members of Congress sent
to the State Department claiming that top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Even members of Bachmann’s own party defended Abedin against the accusations. And now, highlighted by the Global Post
today, the Muslim Brotherhood has responded to Bachmann’s claim, saying
it’s a ridiculous rumor and professing never to have heard of Abedin in
the first place.
The new Egyptian president, Mohammed Morsi, is a
member of the brotherhood, but since beginning his term of office, he
has been engaged in a “battle with the ruling military for executive
power.” As one Brotherhood leader explained it, “The Muslim Brotherhood
can’t even penetrate the Egyptian government.”
Another Brotherhood leader responded to Bachmann’s claim that the Brotherhood may have infiltrated the U.S. government.


“I haven’t heard these rumors, but they strike me as
ridiculous… Surely the United States government selects its employees
very carefully.”
The Post notes that the Brotherhood leaders were “perplexed by the accusations” and said they had no idea who Abedin was.
