      Napoleons troops were amongst the bravest in history and the french were also extremely tough in WW1, it's true they were surprised and overrun by the Germans in WW2, but you have to remember that the British army who were sent to help them were also easily defeated (by luck they were able to escape via Dunkirk).

  • France aspires to become a superpower as evidenced by their plans to build a supercarrier. It takes intestinal fortitude to be a superpower. I guess they plan to patrol it around San Francisco Bay where it's safe.

  • It's time for everyone to get the hell out of Afghanistan anyways. There's no way for the western world to impose our values in that shithole. As soon as we're gone, the Taliboners will be back in power and that's fine by me. Al Qaida is largely done for the time being, Bin Laden is dead. Mission accomplished. Time to send the troops home.

  • my respects to the soldiers who perished. truly. having said that, the french can be summed up with one name: deGaulle. that rat, after fleeing to england, had the audacity to parade around france after the allies liberated it like a conquering champion. then, to thank everyone for their sacrifices, pulls out of the nato alliance while still fully expecting to be defended if the russians had ever invaded. typical.

      Do you have any idea how much French troops are deployed in Africa and Middle east?
      Do you know that Al qaida is moving in Africa were I don't see English troops so much.
      Speaking about Stan I would be personally happy to see more combat troops involved but reality is that danger is coming from south now.

      10.000 troops deployed for NATO, Ivory coast, Lebanon...
      30.000 other troops outside France prepositioned in strategic points around the world.
