A New Zealand Family Lives In Isolation

A break from the violence around us.
This video is almost 13 minutes long which is big by Liveleak's standards but it's well worth it.It's a very refreshing video about "unusual" people who are, perhaps, are not that unusual after all. (Very good quality)

The belief amongst those of our civilization is that this is the "one right way to live" but we are exposed to so many people and things daily, it seems we can never be ourselves. Is it the best possible way for human beings to live? This belief is, of course, wrong. If this were the one right way to live then why are we slowly, but surely, destroying ourselves? Logic dictates that if this were the one right way to live then it would last forever, right?
Have you ever seriously felt like leaving everything behind and start a new life in a small community far away from civilization doing whatever you want through your entire life?

let me give my usual preamble and say that while I have no doubts that modern civilization is unsustainable and will crash if it continues in its current direction, I quite like aspects of civilization. I like my computer and my warm house. I like beer and ice cream. I also like knowing that as long as I keep to myself and don't break any of the real big laws that I am free to do whatever it is that I want (at least in the privacy of my own home). I also like the Internet, and not just for the porn. But while I like all that I still have an over-whelming urge to escape civilization. I hate the traffic and the anger and the fact that people are depressed and killing themselves in record numbers. I hate that we as a civilization believe that we are so smart when we are, in fact, quite dense and unbelievably selfish and short-sighted. I hate the fact that young men in Iraq blow themselves up for the hope that something better exists for them after death. In short, or long, I hate a lot of things about our civilization - and that's why I want to get away from it.

Can we call it an ATERNATIVE LIFESTYLE? Alternative to what? Aren't they human? Their kids are well educated and very well balanced so why they should be inferior to some inner city kid who knows how to drive his car and how to play video games?

I have to add that although we now know that we’re destroying the world, paradoxically our culture believes that its way of doing things is the one right way and nothing could be better. How can this paradox be resolved? The problem, according to our culture, is that people are not perfect. If we were perfect, our way of doing things would work fine. But people aren’t perfect, and they’re not going to become perfect. What we need is not a plan to try to make people perfect, but a system that works with imperfect people.
