Police confirmed they had received reports of a 'shooting incident involving police'.
A spokesman said there was 'one police casualty'.
No group is claiming responsibility for the latest shooting.
There were no further details available, but the incident comes 48 hours after two soldiers were gunned down by dissident republicans as they collected a pizza delivery at their base in Antrim.
Police have been warning of a heightened threat from dissident gunmen for some time.
A manhunt was already under way after the two young soldiers were killed on Saturday night.
