  • Good thing we elected that retard Jay Inslee, I'm sure the 10 cent per gallon gas tax his posse introduced this week will go directly toward cleaning this mess up. Libretardation is strong in these parts.

  • Out of 177 tanks 149 are single wall tanks from the 1940's.
    Those are the ones leaking.
You can bet more will begin to leak.
    Sux for them.

  • No one wants to own this problem, no one wants to clean it up. It's at the arse end of the energy cycle and all the glamorous stuff has already been done. Politicians don't understand this, scientists understand it enough not to not want to be involved. Lots of money for F35 fighters but cleaning up a mess from the last century... not a hope.
And.. the idiot who put this stuff in underground single walled tanks should be made to go into the tanks and patch the holes. With such toxic material yo More..

  • bullshit bullshit bullshit, i live over 300 miles away from hanford nuclear facility, a gentleman picked blackberries on the bank of the columbia river outside longview washington which is located on the columbia river 300 miles away, he made jam and sent it to the president at the time "bill clinton" and when they tested it they immediatly contacted him via fbi and secret service asking him why he was sending radioactive food to the president, he replied that he didnt that the berries More..

    • @2Phast4Rocket Why? That oil makes smog, which kills 13k people in America every year. Nuclear has never killed or injured anybody in America, unless you want to be a dick and count construction workers being killed in heavy equipment accidents or something.

This leak is old news. And it's not representative of things in general. These were very specific, very old, poorly designed containers. It's probably already been cleaned up, and nobody got radiation poisoning.

So... Why is it better More..

    • @moefugger It's not old news to you, I believe you.

I tend to inform my opinions though you know? As opposed to the people who don't actually know anything about the subject, but are afraid anyway because nuclear is a scary word.

I've lived in the region (around Hanford), for a long time. I used to drive by the Trojan reactor all the time. Hanford is an old facility, and the modern techniques are far better. Hanford is old technology. And nobody has been contaminated, even with their old l More..

Very true but pollution control has advanced quite a bit since the old days. Plus it's a solution for the pussy ass American incomprehensible fear of anything radiation, even when it's contained.

    • @2Phast4Rocket Yeah, don't get me wrong. It's insane that America is not exploiting local oil. We don't need middle eastern oil. Our only practical source for energy that doesn't destroy a waterway or chop down a forest or pollute the air, is nuclear. Windmills are ridiculous for so many reason. It's just something people are supporting to feel good about themselves. Until they try to put one up in Ted Kennedy's back yard and spoil his view.
