A man was taken to a hospital emergency room with a gunshot wound in the groin early Friday.

The man was visiting a friend in the 3200 block of Broken Arrow Road, according to a police report. He holds a concealed-gun carry permit, but he left his pistol at the friend’s house while they went out drinking at a bar.

When they returned about 1:30 a.m., the friend asked him to unload the pistol for safety. The man was sitting in a chair and unloading the gun when he told the friend, “This is the way I sleep with it.”

The friend said he heard a shot and thought the man had accidentally fired into the wall. Instead, the man ran into the bathroom, yelling for the friend to call 911.

The victim had an entrance wound in his groin and an exit wound in the back of his leg.
