Now the K9 knows who the alpha dog is. You have to think of it from a pack point of view not a crybaby compassionate politically correct point of view.
guess it was not cut out to be a cop, who knows if it ever graduates with such obedience problems.
and yes, some punishment is involved when training, have to show them who the boss is, but it may be a bit too much at some point. there is such thing as retarded dogs as well, they might figure it out.
Quoted comment by freedomcalls: I don't believe this is proper training for dogs. Maybe you should get hold of the Dog Wisperer.
i remember the episode of him training the Artic Wolf Hybrid and it didnt involve anything like this, but I guess because this is a high stress situation (compared to what non-attack dogs experience) they get different training. i dunno.
my friend taught his dogs to fight with him, just like mma, when they go overboard he serves a hook or a slap, sometimes a choke on it.
and btw this is a repost, feature anyone?
Old repost(see cop car in video)from just the other day. The officer was using an old and outdated method to put his dog on his back in the universal canine position of submission.
This old technique causes more problems then it helped.
Quality modern training utilizes much more positive techniques.
Though I know nothing about how police dogs are trained off hand, this doesnt seem right. I have 2 large breed dogs and have NEVER had done anything that severe but I also havent trained them to apprehend criminals or sniff out drugs either.
Quoted comment by fr33thinker: Police dogs aren't pets. The same people who think this is cruel would be up in arms if a police dog ignored its handler and savaged someone.
but the same training can be introduced without such violence. They should have chosen the right tempered dog to deal with.
And yes, i have dealt with Germans and Malinois' before. In fact, my first dog was a German Shep. One of my greatest buddies she was.
Now if they were conditioning the dog of how to escape and regain control of a situation gone awry, then by all means...

u have to do that. it shows dominance over the dog. dogs are pack animals. this gets control. police dogs arent your grandmas yellow lab.

Always judge a man by how he treats animals.

No worse than breaking a horse...the human has to establish dominance over the beast...having said that, the cop looks a little psycho.
