Those small aa batteries are almost always lead acid or nickle metal hydrate. the lithium ones are about 10 times more expensive so i doubt that family would have them in a remote control. they are used in high end electronics like camera flashes and high powered laser pointers.

Looks like one of those metal friction backings used as teddy bears button eyes, cut the cloth of your choice and stretched it over a cap then snap this backing to hold it in place then stitch it on a doll or even a garment, cept the cloth is missing, the cap is missing the little eye for stitching is missing.
Then again ya a battery cap, cause people just have them laying around all over da place. Could be.
