Grandfather Charged In Shooting Of 2-Year-Old

WEST CHESTER, Ohio -- A 2-year-old girl was shot Sunday night, and her grandfather was arrested.
The shooting occurred at 9:20 p.m. in an apartment in the 5000 block of Tri County View in West Chester.
Alison Ibold was shot in the abdomen. Police called the shooting accidental.
Police said the girl was conscious and alert when paramedics arrived and rushed her to Children's Hospital.

Police arrested Ibold's grandfather, 69-year-old Albert Ibold. He was charged with child endangerment and handling a gun while intoxicated.
Albert Ibold called 911 after the shooting. He told the dispatcher that the girl was shot with a .32 caliber Derringer.
"I was messing with one of my guns and I didn't know it was loaded, and I pulled the trigger and it hit her," he said on the 911 call.
Albert Ibold was arraigned Monday morning and given $11,000 bond. A preliminary hearing was set for July 19.
A family member in the courtroom said the bullet hit Alison in the hip bone, and that she should be released from the hospital later Monday.
Police said the shooting could have been avoided.
"If you are going to have a gun in your home, weapons safety has to be paramount. You have to take every safety precaution," said West Chester police Lt. Joe Gutman.
