(OuterSpace) Matter accreting around a supermassive black hole

Matter accreting around a supermassive black hole (artist's impression)

At the heart of most, if not all, giant galaxies lies a supermassive black hole. When dust and gas falls into the central black hole, it heats up and emits intense radiation. Quasars, some of the brightest objects in the cosmos, are powered by these phenomena. In this artist’s impression of a quasar, the rotating ring of matter, and powerful jets of particles thrown out at close to the speed of light can be seen.

  • I think to date ALL the galaxies observed have a super massive black hole at the center...and have billions of times more mass than our sun, neutron stars are very close to becoming black holes...they also have millions of times more mass than our sun, so much so that they glimmer with light that cannot escape the gravitational pull.. if you dropped a marsh mellow onto a neutron star it would hit the surface with such force it would seem like the star had exploded ... i love astro and quantum ph More..

  • We're a holographic projection. 2D data stored on the event horizon of a black hole, and the fact that every galaxy of merit has a SMBH at it's galactic centre, well that's good enough for me. Now if only I could breakl the rules and fly, it's my reality, I'll do what I choose god damn it! lol.
