Moroccan security forces made no move to intervene, as Melilla is considered an Occupied Land by the Morrocan Government. Spain has owned Melilla continuously since 1497, when Muslims were expelled from the Iberian peninsula with the reconquest of Granada and the North African city was captured from the Muslims.

Occupied my ass. When Spain took Ceuta and Melilla, no such country as Morocco even existed, they were just a bunch of bereber tribes scattered in North Africa.
As for the "humiliation", they get what they deserve. They try to smuggle hash and illegal stuff to Spain in a regular basis.
Have you seen the humiliation most Europeans get when entering Morocco by the border guards? They "welcome" you demanding bribes, are rude with women, etc.

@mcgus I've been to Morocco, and never had any trouble at all with immigration control at Tangiers airport.
Still, it's nice to see a comment from a Spaniard that understand our arguments concerning Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands. Cheers!

Sure, because when England took Gibraltar, Spain did not exist as a nation (NOT). The argument for one cannot be used on the other case.
But, if you want my personal opinion, I think Spain should give both enclaves (Ceuta and Melilla) to Morocco. They are geographically in north Africa and, except for their strategic position, they are just a waste of money and resources for Spain.
