Enemy Troops Escape after Iran's Warning

2007-11-05
TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Units of alien troops deployed at Iran's borders with one of its neighboring countries abandoned their position in a great hurry after they received a warning from Iranian forces, Commander of the Iranian army said here on Monday.

"Several alien troops were stationed in a wrong position by mistake and after they received a warning from the army they left the area in a great hurry and in such a manner that it looked like an escape," Major General Salehi said, noting that the incident happened while he was inspecting a border region on Sunday.

The General did not mention the name of the neighboring country or nationality of the troops, but he seemed to be pointing to the US or British troops deployed at Iran-Iraq borders as he used the word "alien" - an adjective normally used by Iranian officials to describe trans-regional foes, the US to be precise.

  • Ok, so without the slanted language: Iranian forces radioed to advise Coalition troops they were mistakenly crossed into the sovereign territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Coalition troops, re-checking their GPS equipment, radioed their superiors, and realizing their mistake, advised the Iranian forces that their presence in Iran was a mistake and that they would immediately withdraw.

    The end. No spin.

  • I think the point Iran was trying to get across with the capture of the British soldiers has successfully been received.

Yup thats all there is to it."
You really think soldiers on missions aren't watching exactly where they are in terms of the border?

I reckon it'd probably be more like the forces were doing something (testing detection systems perhaps) were caught, then turned back.

I find it hard to believe that in the current situation between Iran and US, they'd let their soldiers just accidentally walk accross the Iranian border. Sovereignty tends to be a fairly big deal out there in the big bad world.

  • well at least they didnt try and detain the US soldiers like they did to the UK becuase the US would shoot first ask questions later if forces approched aggressivly, wouldent want a reason for more bloodshed...other than the nukes or course...maybe it wont get to there

  • Being taken hostage isn't really a no questions asked deal, "are you coming to talk or do you want us to give up," the history of hostage taking in Iran probably makes for very different reactions concerning how that question is answered.

  • In other words the General said ... "go home boys we can't entertain you like we did with the Brits last time, if we do, there will be more of you next time crossing the borders just to have a good time here for a few days and that would be a finacial burden on the tax-payers"
