  • The big ship's O.K. It was the little ship's fault for not getting out of the way in time.

  • It's kinda annoying when people post a news item with no information, no context, nothing... Anyway, google gives..

CCTV footage shows the huge bulk carrier, Grand Rodosi spearing headlong into the side of the tuna boat, Apollo S whilst moored at the wharf in Port Lincoln, South Australia.

    • @ukexpat It's kind of annoying when people post a news story and don't bother to read what they've posted nor post an update to the story...hence,"Grand Rodosi is currently lying 29°47.33' N 122°06. More..58' E
(Zhoushan Shipyard near Shanghai) where it doesnt seem to have moved for a long time."

That tuna boat was torn up for scrap in November of 2010.

  • Not much left of the ship that got hit.
    Just a flattened mangled mess.

  • The accident happened in Oct 2010.

Found this excellent audio, an interview with an investigator:

    http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/local/eyre/201010/r652761_4603946.mp3

Which is posted alongside this article:

This was an expensive accident. The crushed boat was worth AU$17 million and the wharf was also damaged, though they don't say how badly. Although it's not obvious, the big container ship was damaged as well.

    The 'small' ship isn More..

    • @NotJim

We were across the other side of the warf when this happened! Fuck! What a crash it was. The tuna boat sank after the crash..

The video doesn't do the depiction of damage much in the way of justice. It was a bloody mess.

Wow, that gave you a cool story to tell the grandkids!

"Sonny, you ain't seen nothin' till you see a 68 million kilo cargo ship crush a 700 ton fishing vessel like it was a beer can!"
