In my country they are applying a different strategy these days. In case a chase gets as dangerous as this they stop following him and rather switch to a surveilance from a distance. It has shown that procedures as shown in this video endanger other people in traffic because it puts the thief under extra pressure usually climaxing in an accident in which also innocents are harmed.

@Simba1 The cops here have the same strategy. During the video at one point the narrator says that the cops are indeed backing off for safety reasons. It's been edited down so I don't know exactely what happened after that. I think the stolen merc slowed down aswell.
