@ElegantDecline Well the problem was we couldnt just go in there and bomb and leave, that wouldnt have worked, we absolutely needed boots on the ground and without some kind of stable gov't then these groups would've taken a foothold again very easily. Unfortunately we underestimated their corruption and backwardness etc.

It was clear at the time that the US leaders had a totally fantastical idea of US power and what it could achieve.
British leaders had a similar fantasy about US power and how it could be used to achieve things
Any one less interested in fantasy and more in history could have easily predicted how this would turn out...and many did
We will now leave having lost a lot...how much will be counted More..

Why it never gets better in Afghanistan: It is populated by lazy, freeloading, pedophile Arabs who practice Islam.
IMO, they should bring back the Russians to continue their good work at the Policharki Prison. Let's just say that the Russians weren't known for their excellent borsch soup in the prison cafeteria.
