  • the dog is 19 years old and in pain. It's time to euthanize the poor thing. Its nice that the guy loves his dog, but the responsible thing to do is take him to the vet and put him to sleep. I am a huge dog lover, but there comes a time where its more humane to euthanize a pet than letting it die a 'natural' death while suffering for an extended period of time.

That's all well and good until you look into your friend's eyes on the way to the vet.

I've put down 2 myself. Hardest thing I've ever done.

    • @Tyde: If joint pain is his only trouble related to his lofty age, that's a piss-poor reason to put him down...especially in light of the proven treatments that are now making this dog young again.

The man was doing something that was within his powers to ease the dog's suffering - taking it to the water. His finances didn't allow for him to afford the treatments that he now receives.

I'm sure you would agree that as an owner, you are best equipped to determine your companion's quality More..

Wait till you watch you mom or dad die and you can't put them down.

Then it will be the second hardest.

    • @Tyde Are you kidding me? The dog may be in pain here and there, but do you really think it wants to die?

My old man is in pain almost all the time, but he still loves to be alive, loves to laugh, love, enjoy games, company.

The dog is still alive and still gets happy when its owner comes home, enjoys its food, etc..

And you think its best to end all that because it goes through some joint pain?

I know your heart is in the right place bud, but thats a hell of a call, to end a dogs l More..

  • My childhood dog passed a couple years ago at 19. Found her under my house when I was 7, just a scared little mutt puppy that couldn't find a way back to her mom. Her hips has just started to turn after 19 years, and it broke my heart knowing that she was at the end and about to be in permanent pain. The worst thing happened, at 19 years she didn't die of old age. She laid down in a copperhead's nest on my hunting property and died that night(had to put her down because she wouldn't stop breathi More..
