Exploring 110 year old 'ghost ship' on the Ohio River

Some friends and I heard about a so-called 'ghost ship' on the Ohio river in one of the tributaries... we took our kayaks out to take a look. The boat was built in 1902 and was involved in both World Wars. I've also included a picture of how it looked in its former glory.

*Note* I did not discover the ship, it was discovered many years back. This is just my experience exploring this great find. Also, sorry for the shaky cam, I paddled about a mile up stream in an angling kayak

  • Did a little research and came up with this.

In 1902, the Pusey and Jones Corporation built the steel-hulled vessel for Mr. J. Rogers Maxwell as the luxury yacht "CELT". Mr. Manton B. Metcalf later purchased the vessel and renamed her as the "SACHEM". The US Navy acquired the "SACHEM" from Mr. Metcalf in July 1917 for service during World War I and renamed her as the "USS SACHEM" ("SP-192").
