Well, it's only a few days since the landfall of Sandy and as you can already see in the media that the gov(and all affiliated organizations) are already failing the people(imagine that). The first few days after a major storm is considered the 'tolerant days', people are complaining of no help, food, shelter, etc as expected and they should be, but are maintaining their civility for now.

With the high amount of people dependent of welfare(food stamps, etc), they're realizing it's doing them no good as the majority of the food stamp progam is electronic(no electricity, no food).

I live in the middle of Hurricane Alley on the Gulf Coast, so I've seen the same scenario play out every time there's a storm that comes through, of course the media plays it up that everything is ok, but I've seen firsthand what really happens that the media always ignores to tell the masses.

There are news articles, videos and photos from independent news sources that are showing the people in the devastated areas have already resorted to 'dumpster diving'(eating out of the dumpsters).

Today the people of Staten Island have learned that Mayor Bloomberg has diverted the emergency supply trucks from Staten Island to Central Park to aide with the marathon on Sunday.....Seriously?

Yes, the mayor isn't calling off the marathon which I think is going to be the biggest mistake of his political career.
There are reports of people that sought higher ground in motels and hotels around the city that are being thrown out in order to make room for the marathon runners....

The mayor says that the marathon route will remain the same, starting on Staten Island. His first priority of cleanup was to make sure the marathon route was cleared for Sunday.

The 'tolerant days' will be over by Sunday and people are going to be desperate by then and will resort to fending for themselves at any means necessary.

I have a feeling the marathon runners will be in for a rude awakening when they appear on Staten Island at the starting line and are met by the desperate locals pissed off at the relief efforts. Total pandemonium will ensue. I'm sure the mayor is aware of this scenario happening so that means he'll have the majority of the police force on the marathon route, meaning less police out in the devastated areas protecting the people and property from looters and the like.

The majority of the people that have never been through a hurricane or any type of major storm don't realize the most dangerous time of a storm is the aftermath.

My state(Alabama) has sent hundreds of Alabama Power crews(and 1000s of volunteer helpers) north to aide in the quick restoration of power for people because we here on the Gulf Coast knows what the people in the northeast are going through. But unfortunately the NJ power crews are turning our help away because the Alabama Crews aren't unionized. So, NJ citizens, you have your local power company to thank for the slow restoration of power. The Alabama power crews didn't turn around and go home, they found desperate people that are welcoming their help. I'm sure other states have sent help as well only to be turned away. I have no problems with unions, more power to them, but when it comes to making the people suffer because of it....
