DARPA has been behind some pretty interesting projects in the past. From a power strip turned hacking machine, to cyborg spy beetles, to the Internet, they've just about done it all. What's the next trick up their sleeve? Driving on water.
The tank's official name is the Captive Air Amphibious Transporter (CAAT), and it's a part of DARPA's Tactically Expandable Maritime Platform program, which is intended to eventually deliver supplies to coastal areas that are otherwise hard to reach. The treads are made of air-filled pontoons, which hold up the 4-ton tank
This "little" guy is actually a prototype. The long-term goal is to build one that's 5 times this size.
So, who's going to make a mini version to take to the pool?

too slow= easy target.
the more moving parts the greater the chance for a breakdown...
or as engineer Mr. Scott ("Scotty") from Star Trek would say:
"the more you over-work the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain."
