  • Obama made a big mistake endorsing gay marriage. He chose money (large gay donors had begun withholding campaign contributions) over sound strategy.

    Previously, Obama had opposed gay marriage (probably not personally but as a political position) and advocated civil unions. This allowed him to walk the razor edge between offending homosexuals and offending the more conservative blacks and hispanics. He depended upon all those groups for votes, as well as upon centrist Democrats and some indep More..
