Kid With No Eyes, Uses Echolocation Like A Bat

Those African bush-people who's whole language is nothing but clicks and snaps would be great at this.

  • I remember when my kids were 3 years old. I would have been crushed to hear my boys say I can't see anymore. This woman is fucking strong, and that boy is a fucking genius. An amazing pair.

I'm an atheist and not prone to saying such things, but fuck, god bless them.

    • @Saros saw this documentry a few years back about this kid, was amazing. the human senses can be used in such a way that it is incredible, humans have lost touch with such senses from technology i think, or this kid is superhuman. either way amazing good on him

Huh? How does that work for an atheist?

    • @Pud_Z It doesn't work. It's just an expression. Atheists say "god damn it" all the time.

  • fuck echo-location... I USE VISUAL LOCATION LIKE A G, SON!

  • I sometimes use this in pitch black conditions if I don't have my torch sometimes. Not near as good as this guy though!
From what I've heard the other purpose of 'tapping the stick' for blind people is a similar reflection of sound.

    • @N4CR Ray Charles was the same way, got around with no cane. He used hard-soled shoes to make tapping noises. It's probably a lot more effective the way this kid does it, because he can control the direction of the click and have his head oriented the perfect direction to receive the echo.

I imagine one of those WW2 style clickers they used to signal each-other in the bush might work. One that you can operate between your teeth.

Did not know that about Ray Charles. Makes sense though and perhaps with the shoe trick, there are more blind people around us than we realize. Shoes or a clicker would save this guy a lot of tongue movement.

I find that as I've aged, my ears have more accurate filters and I can hear certain effects or parts of music and environment, I didn't previously notice. Same sound system and positioning over the years too.

This guy must have Jedi ears by now..

    • @N4CR Yeah, I'm a big Ray Charles fan, but I didn't know that until I saw the movie Ray. Have you seen it?

Nope. I'll definitely keep my ear out for it then ;)

A blind kid used to live in my street that never used a stick. He used to slap his thigh as he walked along.

Don't think that way. We just enjoyed his incredible legacy.

Not alone either, there are a few others.

Maybe not as good as him and his Mom tho. They had it torched :-)

      Thanks Ben.

Thanks Ben's Mom - we're watching what you achieved with love and belief.

      Wow.

  • The way natural selection (tag: Darwin) works is those survive best who best fit into a current environmental state.

Now, Imagine sun vanishing - which is possible - someone like him would be better suited for the conditions and after time, normal people are going to die out and most will have that echolocation.

Are flies better off with wings or without? There is this one island where flies have no wings, because if they did, the strong winds on this island would have carried and killed them More..

"Imagine sun vanishing - which is possible - someone like him would be better suited for the conditions and after time, normal people are going to die out and most will have that echolocation".

Dude, if the Sun were to cease to exist then pretty much every living thing on this planet would perish.
Do you think that the Sun is merely a visible light source?

      Posted Jul-5-2012 By

    • @GXst How exactly is it possible for the sun to vanish?...
