U.S. Congressman and Member of Committee on Science, Space and Technology Believes Earth is Only 9,000 Years Old

The Scientific American reports that U.S. House Representative Paul Broun believes the Earth is a mere 9,000 years old. Broun is a physician and, unfortunately, he is also a member of the Committee on Science, Space and Technology. NASA says the Earth is about 4.5 billion years old.

Congressman Broun's shockingly ignorant comments were made at a speech given at the Sportsmen's Banquet held on September 27 at Liberty Baptist Church in Hartwell, Georgia. Broun said in his speech, "There are a lot of scientific data that I've found out as a scientist that actually show that this is really a young earth." He also said, "I don't believe that the earth is but about 9,000 years old. I believe it was created in six days as we know them."

Broun also says everything he was taught about evolution, embryology and the Big Bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of Hell." Here is a clip from Broun's speech:
