2012-03-31 JAL82 B777-246/ER JA701J Tailstrike Video
Short explanation for those who don't understand Japanese: This is JAL flight 82 from Shanghai to Haneda (Tokyo) from March 31, 2012. Bad weather and an unstable approach to Haneda lead the pilot to decide to go around for another attempt. He's pulled up (nose is up) but the thrust reversers are deployed leading the tail striking the runway (tailstrike) and being dragged along for quite some distance. This is a potentially disastrous (literally) situation. The Japanese ministry of transport has classified this as an accident and they are investigating.
Note: JAL seems to want to suppress any news of this incident from the press so videos on many sites have been hit with takedown notices. It was initially reported by the Japanese press but things have gotten mighty quiet since the initial reports.

I can fix that with a shopping cart wheel and a few screws.

Some training craft have a small bent piece of metal, stuck on the lower tail section for this exact purpose.

They automate everything else, why not limit pitch while the wheels are on the ground?

Only reason Japanese have a problem pronouncing the letters "L" & "R" is because they aren't used in their alphabet. Get a clue, disrespectful ass.

Oh, so that's it. I thought it was because they venerated Elmer Fudd. Prease excuse me, right2carry san.
I'm not going to worry about it too much though because I'm sure some people would make fun of my accent as well. But I'm sure that they would be pleased to know that you are looking out for their best interests.
Now, it's quiz time:
Who holds the record for the largest lemon tart in the world, and in what year?

Should of thought twice about booking the entire rear of the plane for the national Sumo team.

Last time this happened in NZ was a drunk Singapore airlines pilot who put the wrong weight and balance information into the flight computer. Aircon and APU caught fire we nearly had 200+ people dead. Of course the media didn't tell you the above and I suspect something similar occurred here.
Someone screwed up weight and balance or there was a computer issue or poor control. Most likely human error either way. The engines looked like they were in reverse thrust mode, wtf?

@N4CR -This may have been a weight and balance issue but it is also clear that the pilot didn't have adequate speed for takeoff when he yanked back on the yoke.

@PyneOil It says in the description that this was on landing. Pretty odd to get a tail strike on landing, serious fuck up by this pilot. Doubt it was loadsheet/balance related.

@bongsmoker
Ours was a takeoff incident, but damn.. yeah I think you're right he's tried to go around without having right speed or thrust configuration, what a tool.

That was a go-around attempt. Thrust reverser doors were still open when they rotated.
