A man and woman were stabbed this morning during an apparent home invasion in northwest Harris County, officials said.

The couple, who have not been identified, were attacked about 6 a.m. at their home in the 16300 block of Leamington, Harris County Sheriff's officials said.

The woman was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. The man also was hurt, but the extent of his injuries wasn't immediately known.

The couple's small children were asleep in the home. They were not injured, officials said.

Sheriff's officials were still trying to determine if anything had been taken during the incident.
