I've fallen into small tree wells and they are exhausting to get out of. Almost everyone does sooner or later until you learn what to look out for... Even so, they could be completely hidden.
Still, off trail skiing is amazing, but it is fucking dangerous and you NEVER should do it alone.

@BroncoBama Imagine if he sunk in even further and they couldn't locate him. Scary, one of the life book there.

@Minnesota
In Stowe, VT there was some great off trail skiing years ago and the worst tree wells were from the little trees that barely poked above the surface.
Almost every year one of us disappeared into one. By the time you got out you were exhausted.
Still, every year we went back!

@Minnesota I haven't been there in quite a while, but I remember Afton Alps as a nice ski area in Minnesota. There were several others as well. In Minnesota you don't ski on mountains, you ski down into glacial valleys. Awesome avatar btw

@haloofflaminglead Hell yeah I got a season pass at afton. It's the best place near the metro. There is a place near Aurora MN which is like 50 minutes from the canada border and that had some huge runs. Wish I lived near mountains, I board every other day in winter. yeah I love this avatar...

He's COMPLETELY LUCKY that his friend with the GoPro was with him on that trip!! GoPro dude totally kept his cool/head, didn't panic, directed their other buddy, and got him out ALIVE!! Could've ended a LOT worse!!
I heard them mention beers @ the end of the clip. The guy that was rescued owes his buddy-rescuer a LIFETIME supply of brews!!

@PenceFan I totally agree with u he was very calm and did the unthinkable in a dangerous situation. after a quick check up at a hospital these guys can all drink a beer together and talk about it instead going to a funeral. Sometimes you don't see how cool headed action takers are until disaster strikes.

this is fucking dangerous, the ski resort that I worked at a couple of years back, there was a guy riding alone in terain like this. He fell down a hole and drowned in powdersnow. Moral of the story; Never ride alone in conditions like this and use a beacon at all times :)

@parasela Yeah, I would've done that, but is that not the correct way to rescue?

@Triode he survived so id say its correct. i dont see really any other way to get him out besides just digging. scary scary stuff for both the guy in the tree well and the rescuers. if my buddy was down there id be frantically digging scared shitless

@Beowulf86 Likewise somestimes it the chance we take to save a friend/ family member knowing the dangers of falling into a confined space ourselves. Those rescuers could of all fallen in and, I applaud their bravery; although they could of become victims as well.

@dominatus84 it happenes quite frequently, even without a tree-well people get stuck in powder and suffocate or freeze to death.
