Special Constable convicted of assault on Ex-Soldier
A special constable from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has been convicted of assaulting an ex-solider during an attempted arrest in Wigan.
Former L/Cpl Mark Aspinall had been ejected from a nightclub in Wigan when special constable Peter Lightfoot and two officers tried to arrest him.
Lightfoot was convicted by a jury at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The other two officers - Sgt Stephen Russell and Pc Richard Kelsall - were cleared on all counts.
