This clip is from the 2003 GSN documentary "Big Bucks: The Press Your Luck Scandal".
It analyzes how Michael Larson - The Press Your Luck genius, cracked the game board's code to win the most money ever on the show.
in June 1984, Larson won $110,237 in cash and prizes, at the time the largest one-day total ever won on a game show. Larson was able to win by memorizing the patterns used on the Press Your Luck game board.

The tone of documentary kind of makes the guy sound like he cheated - even though he clearly didn't. It's like card counting - just because the system you are playing uses math to beat you doesn't mean you can't use that math to your advantage, legitimately. I sincerely hope the show paid this guy every cent he was owed!

It wasn't a scandal. The show itself was stupid for not addressing the potential problem when they knew all along it was possible that somebody would catch on.
