JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A 6-year-old Jacksonville boy remains in critical condition at Shands Jacksonville.
Police say a 15-year-old boy beat him up.
Police arrested Jesse Arthur Thompson and charged him with Aggravated Child Abuse.
Police say the teenager was watching the little boy and the child's 3-year-old sister in a Southside home on Sunday.
When the boy's mom came home, she says she found her son unresponsive on the kitchen floor.
According to the police report, the suspect, Thompson, told the mother he didn't know what happened.
Police talked with him. They said he had conflicting stories.
But, they say he did admit to punching the child on both sides of his face, kicking him on the legs and hitting him in the stomach with his knee.
Authorities also say Thompson hit the 6-year-old in the back of the head with a wooden and plastic cutting board and stepped on his head several times as he laid on the floor.
Police say the 15-year-old was upset about how the little boy was behaving and was trying to correct the behavior.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Officers say the child was taken to the hospital with head trauma, skull fracturing and possible brain injuries.
Police have not released the child's name.
They also have not told First Coast News the relationship between the little boy and the teenage suspect.
