Doc Creates Small Hole (Trephining) In Order To Relieve Pressure/Pain From Smashed Finger (Subungual Hematoma)
This is actually a really great, do-it-yourself technique to keep in mind if you encounter such an issue. It'll make ya feel heaps better, trust me.

Had that done to my big toe. Soon as it penetrated the toe nail, blood shot out & covered the nurse, face to waist.
Sure did feel a lot better afterwards.
She didn't look impressed though :@)

@Ruffus Haha! Awesome! I had a 50 lbs salt block dropped on my toe and had this done. Crushed my bone but this procedure still made it feel better.

@SSSox88 I was pulling a 45 pound plate off a Smith machine & totally didn't see the 25 pound plate in front of it. Shoulder height, right on my big toe. No doubt my swearing that day could have easily put a seasoned sailor to shame LOL
Should have seen the loook on my face when she pulled out a paper clip & said thats the medical implement she'll be using (heated up with a Bick lighter)
I was like Pardon Me?? hehehe

@Ruffus
I have had this done many times, with different techniques. The last time I saw a doc for it she didn't want to do anything. It hurt so bad I begged her to put a hole in my nail. She said that's just a myth; it wouldn't do any good, even though I told her I've had experience and it WILL do some good. I asked to see someone else and she went out and after a while she came back with something that looked like one of those drill bits you would use for tile. She rolled the fucking dr More..

I don't blame ya for not going back. You sure she was a real doctor, or did she just stay at the Holiday Inn the night before?? LOL

Use a really small drill bit after cleaning/sterilize the bit. Twist it between your thumb and finger until you get through the nail.Immediate relief in most cases. I've done it to myself after hitting my fingers with a hammer , works every time.

I bet a drill press would make things even easier. Nice.

@MrJoshua666 The last time I did that I thought it was taking too long.
So I chucked the bit up in the cordless drill. Worked great up until the bit grabbed the nail when it went through.
I recommend just using the bit.

@lonewolf6972 If you have a welder handy its like going through butter. Use the red hot wire and it will take less than a second. thats the first trick they show you in metal fabrication

my god when he broke through it made me cringe. But it's always good to know this type of stuff even if you don't plan on using it.

Very educational. But who here can honestly say they can actually do this to themselves if the need arises. Not me.

I'll be a son-of-a-bitch. I wish I knew about this years ago. Smashed my fingers I don't know how many times. I'll have to let my buddy the carpenter know about this as well.
Thanks for the post!!! Voted!!!

My finger tip got smashed in a door and swelled up so big I thought the skin was going to split open. To relieve the pressure, I slid a needle underneath the fingernail. It was very juicy, just like in this video, but man did it feel better.

I hear after doing so the finger or toe in question feels 100% percent better, I myself have never done so, frigging thing hurt so bad at the time, could not bring myself using a drill bit or hot needle to so. It does work from what i have been told
