Seal skinning competition

I can fillet a king salmon and butcher a moose. But I don't know how to skin a seal. Notice the winner starts with the posterior flippers while others begin with opening the chest. This is from the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics in Fairbanks, Alaska, USA in 2011.

The Native Youth Olympics were held today (27 April, 2012) in Anchorage. A record was tied in the boys Alaskan High Kick (93") and a new record was set in the girls Alaskan High Kick (she broke the old record by 3 inches, at 82").

  • *INCOMING* Meat eating hypocrite cry babies. As long as their meat is frozen and packaged at the grocery store they'll eat it and feel morally superior to the people who actually provide it for them.
Also, I'm quite sure American's have chicken feather plucking contests. Won't hear these fucks complain about that.

    • @IncorrektGrammor Seals are as smart as a dog, (no pitbulls) retarded sonofa bitches. Chickens are stupid so are cows.

    • @IncorrektGrammor totally agree with you. I would force every person that eats meat to kill at least one animal, to know where meat comes from.

    • @maximus84 what an stupid answer. so based on your theory, stupid or disabled persons should be treated different?

Cows, pigs, chickens and lambs live and die by the sword. They know the game.
Seals and dolphins and whales are smart animals, plus they don't taste as good. They should have the vote. We shouldn't eat them.

I eat a lot of meat, but I don't personally kill any animals. Except for a frog I killed as a child.
I do attend a lot of human autopsies. Haven't eaten any of them though, but does that still qualify me as someone who knows where meat comes from?

  • You have to give the Eskimo some credit, because you know the Chinese would skin em alive.

  • Gee, what an awesome talent.

I get that someone has to process these things... but really whats next?

  • Give them a break, it is part of their heritage, just as soccer or cocaine are part heritage of white people. They used to do that to survive.

  • Guys..... Stop being such pussies. Just because you can easily get your soya milk and tofu sticks from the shop around the corner, you seem to have forgotten that most people eat in the real world... This involves killing and skinning animals. There is nothing sick about it. By making it a competition you have increased social bonds, increased yield, decreased the time it takes to skin the animal, and you have had fun while doing it. It would be even stupid not for our ancestors to make a compet More..

In theory, yeah, under ideal circumstances.

These animals, though, died for nothing. They don't even get eaten afterwards.

      Sorry, forgot to add:

Also, this here isn't exactly some tribal event in the middle of nowhere but in the middle of prospering civilization.

    • @deathOfHeavyD you know nothing. where do you get these "facts"? You have never even been to a WEIO... you are spouting about things you absolutely know NOTHING about! this is from a former WEIO Silver Medalist.

  • You go Grandma! To all of you who believe these people are savages...STOP and look at Denmarks Faroe Islands where they kill hundreds of DOLPHINS yearly for SPORT and barely EAT them....unlike them, the Inuit respect their kill and use EACH AND EVERY single part of the animal...Before you call these people savages, STOP and look at the rich folks in the world who CONTINUE to buy fur coats simply for STYLE... Gottammit some of you are such PETA lovers... To those who are, go kill yourselves and s More..

  • its natives and they use every part of the animal, im tired of these hippie people thinking we should all eat beans and leaves.

  • I have no problem with this.
They kill seals for food and use every part of the animal for some useful purpose.
If this was China the seal would still be alive when they started skinning it, now that would be fucked up.

  • This is their culture and tradition. They kill their food animals quick and no difference to use ordering burger from a drive-through. We just don't witness the butchering of the animals.

  • We should hold competitions like these but we'll use inmates (live for added drama) instead of seals.

  • Take that P.E.T.A. Good luck finding your members in Eskimo-Indian community. This is their tradition and their food. Fuck off!

    • @rafalski2008

      Wrong.

This is not their food, this is useless waste of lives - or do you think these animals there are still being eaten after this?!?

Not a PETA member, just someone with common sense.

    • @deathOfHeavyD Yes I imagine that they are eaten afterwards. Why would they not be?

Do you stand outside chicken battery farms and complain about their conditions? Or do you go to your local slaughter house and complain about the pigs that get electrocuted, hung on a hook and then have their throats slit?

Those seals lived free, were killed instantly and were probably eaten entirely.

    • @Winters #

Because of hygiene issues, watch the surroundings, who walks where on what floor with what kind of shoes without any protective clothing at what temperatures etc. etc.

Sorry, _I_ wouldn't eat that germ and maggot infested meat anymore.

      Posted Apr-28-2012 By

    • @Winters

      Forgot to add (sorry):

Living conditions on chicken farms are independent of hygienic requirements of a butchery.

And, yes, I do "complain" about it... no, that's not the right word - I only (!) buy so-called "bio" meat that is a tad more expensive but has to meet certain criteria concerning living conditions and the way(s) of killing those animals.

-Use your 'common sense' to cite your factual basis for your claim that:
-Eskimos & Indians do not eat seal
-That these particular ones will not be utilized

  • Nice, good to see they havent forgot the art of skinning sea animals. Thanks to that braindead Brigitte Bardot and the rest of the Hollywood circus, the inuits almost lost all their income from seal-hides and fur from other animals. So for those city- rats who dont like hunting and skinning of animals,: Skin, fur, hide, meat etc. comes from living animals.
