  • I lived i Beijing and it was very common to have the entrance door stolen in the building where I lived, same as bicycles and cars, the country is Communist same as their propaganda, people are murdered and robbed they just hide the numbers and if there is something big. They make a public execution so people stop asking questions.

  • Except for Tibet (where I have not been), China is a terrible destination to travel to. The people are cold, mean-spirited, and the place dismal and inhuman. Communist era style mass housing blocks and pollution make China the least interesting place to visit.

  • Mmmm,

This report is more about differences in media reporting and perception than reality, and seems bizzarly bent on painting the UK as a hotbed of violence.

True the murder rate in the US is high compared to the rest of the civilised world at 4.9 per 100,000.

While China is 0.7 and the UK is 0.9.

Also, China doesn’t have a free press so when there are waves of violence against foreigners it gets reported on social media rather than the press. http://beijingcream.com/2015/01/arrested-local-gang-alleged-to-have-targeted-foreigners-with-bats/

  • I travelled quite a bit in China, felt pretty safe everywhere. Enjoyed it.
Had my wallet lifted a few times there though... pickpocketing is a problem in touristy areas.
Other then that, this is a nice tourist propaganda clip.

    • @Sir_Tossalot yeah have to say I felt pretty safe there. I did have a bump and “try” to get my wallet. She wasn’t fast enough as I jumped back and sent her scrambling lol. I knew then to be extra cautious. My mother had her purse stolen 2x, but that was over a 9yr period. The only area was in the Muslim area that it was a little pushy, but my family is from NYC and speaks mandarin. So we knew their little conversations. My mother ripped into them a few times. I did have one encounter with More..

Yeah, I had my wallet lifted waiting for a bus in Xi'an.. I actually skipped an earlier bus because I felt 'watched' but apparently they skipped that bus too and caught me on the next one. Police didn't care, gave me a statement I needed to sign, couldn't read a thing.
Other then that I always felt safe 24hours/day everywhere around.
China's generally very safe, especially for 'foreigners'.

    • @Sir_Tossalot yes in Xian was where the frenchy was. You’re better off paying a driver. Very cheap. I tipped (not supposed to) our driver 20$ for a week and he about passed out. But the drivers know all the good stuff normal people won’t tell you. So he ended up being very good to me after that. I only hired him always. He knew all the workarounds and best places to go......for whatever.

Why have there been numerous knife attacks and murders of foreigners in Beijing, including one on the Drum tower, one on the tourist street just south of Tiananmen and not to forget the poor guy that had a sword thrust right through his body in Sanlitun.
